Pochettino unfazed by Spurs’ quiet transfer window

"Now we have players who compete at a high level in the World Cup, and we have the captain who is the world champion, the one who lifted the trophy".

"Do I think he will still be manager of Manchester United this time next year?"

"It is so hard now, only four hours to the end [of the transfer window]", he said.

In the hours leading up to the transfer deadline for Premier League clubs, United supporters furiously refreshed social media with the hope of seeing confirmation of a new signing only to be left disappointed.

The newspaper adds that United are unwilling to spend more than £40m on the player, who is said to be valued at more than £50m by his current employers.

"Of course it's hard to understand for people in football that Tottenham didn't sign or sell players, but sometimes in football you need to behave differently", he said.

Mauricio Pochettino insists Tottenham's lack of activity in the transfer window isn't a problem because it was just as important to hold onto the club's key players.

Pochettino had been linked with several players and a fresh approach for Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish was rebuffed by the Championship club earlier this week.

Speaking to reporters (via the Mirror), Ferdinand said: "Harry Maguire did great at the World Cup, but of the players potentially available he would not be my first choice".

"I am not anxious, not sad, I am so happy. He will make them better".

"I knew what was going to happen, and I told them, but that is what we got". It's a massive challenge for us to try to deliver the best tools for them to get fit and then to prepare them for the whole season, not only for one, two or three games or for one month.

"We work to improve the squad but, when it is not possible, it is not possible, and we move on".

England internationals Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Eric Dier are among the players to have been given time off after the tournament, with no participation in pre-season games as a result.
