James Bond producer says 'it is time' for a black 007

With Danny Boyle's James Bond 25 aiming for a November 2019 release, the earliest we might see James Bond 26 would likely be 2020, but probably much later - getting closer to Elba's 50birthday.

Anyone know how Stringer Bell likes his martinis?

According to Britain's Daily Star, Bond franchise producer Barbara Broccoli told The Equalizer 2 director Antoine Fuqua that there have been internal discussions about casting the first black actor to play 007.

The article claims that Broccoli told Fuqua that "it is time" for a person of color to be cast in the role. Bond 25 is being produced by Eon Productions with Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson producing. If that were the case, Elba would be considered a top candidate for the part.

Elba also plays the title role in British crime drama Luther, voiced Chief Bogo in Zootopia, plays Heimdall in the Marvel movies, and famously cancelled the apocalypse in 2013's Pacific Rim.

Other actors whose names have been suggested to take over the role of 007 include McMafia star James Norton, Tom Hardy, and Poldark's Aidan Turner. You need a guy with physically strong presence. Back in 2016 he called it the "wildest rumor in the world" and wondered if he was too old for the role.

But Craig, who's played the secret agent since 2005, still has one more film to make.

Bond 25 is scheduled to be released in North Amercian theaters on November 8, 2019, with a United Kingdom release scheduled for October 25, 2019.
