Melania Trump's parents get USA citizenship

First Lady Melania Trump's parents were sworn in as United States citizens on Thursday.

First lady Melania Trump's parents are finally United States citizens after years of living under communist rule in Slovenia.

President Donald Trump's in-laws, Viktor and Amalija Knavs, took the oath of citizenship, Wildes said.

The Knavs were sworn in as USA citizens on Thursday in Lower Manhattan, The New York Times reported.

The Knavses slipped in and out of a side entrance at a Manhattan federal building flanked by Department of Homeland Security police.

Kaitlyn Schallhorn is a Reporter for Fox News. They made their first trip to America in 2004.

The First Lady wears an nearly "naked" dress while accompanying her husband to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit.

When the Times asked Wildes if the Knavs obtained their citizenship through family-based immigration ― often pejoratively referred to as "chain migration" ― Wildes was vague. Advocates for restricting legal immigration have pointed to the imbalance in favor of family connections as evidence of the need for reform, calling for a "merit-based" system that would choose immigrants based on need in the US.

Experts estimate those measures, so far resisted by Congress, would cut legal immigration into the U.S. almost in half.

The Knavses' citizenship ceremony was kept hush-hush at the Jacob K. Javits Federal Building.

While the Knavs now live in Mar-a-Lago and Trump Tower in New York City, they didn't always live in luxury.

Amalija is 73. The first lady, born Melanija, changed her name to Melania Knauss when she started modeling. They married in 2005.

Melania Trump became a USA citizen in 2006 after marrying Trump the year before.

In a phone call on Thursday evening, Wildes declined to comment on whether Viktor and Amalija Knavs support President Trump's push to curb family-based sponsorship.

Around the same time the Knavses were completing the ceremony, he was tweeting his rage about the ongoing Russian Federation probe ("an illegally brought Rigged Witch Hunt") and his excitement about plans for a sixth branch of the military ("Space Force all the way!").
