DOOM Eternal officially coming to Switch

The rebooted Doom released in 2016 was a critical triumph, an impeccably designed balance of shooting and melee, based on the idea that video game gunfights are more exciting when you need to keep moving and can't just hang back and shoot from cover.

Once again, DOOM Eternal puts players in control of the DOOM Slayer, a gun-toting, demon-murdering antihero hellbent on revenge (no pun intended). Not only did Bethesda provide more details, but we also got a better look at the gameplay. Several guns have a "meat hook" at the end, for gruesome close range combat.

For a closer look at the game, check out the trailer from QuakeCon. The QuakeCon 2018 footage takes us through a series of different settings inside the ever twisting maps this franchise is known for. Oh yes, I said "players": multiple people can band together to form Slayer Hunting Parties, which should make for some deliciously desperate battles.

There are a ton of new changes being introduced to Doom Eternal.

One interesting thing about DOOM Eternal is that it will allow players to take over demons and "invade" another player's game.

Bethesda has announced that DOOM Eternal is coming to the Nintendo Switch, with Panic Button - the studio that ported DOOM and Wolfenstein II - handling conversion duties. For big fans of lore, the team promises there will be plenty to discover, as they've shifted their thinking about individual games to considering the inter-workings of the entire DOOM universe when crafting this story. We'll report on it as soon as it does.
