Imran Khan swearing-in on Aug 18, 3 Indian cricketers on invitee list

He was officially nominated as PTI's prime ministerial candidate as well as the leader of their parliamentary committee on Monday.

Talking to U.S. acting Ambassador to Pakistan John F. Hoover who called on him at his Banigala residence on Wednesday, the prime minister-in-waiting said Pakistan and the USA had witnessed many ups and downs in their relationship, which were the outcome of trust deficit between the two countries.

Khan said that Pakistan-US relations witnessed several ups and downs in the history.

Chairman has won from all five constituencies he contested in the July 25 general election, cases against the cricketer-turned-politician, including for violation of the election code of conduct, had put his plans in jeopardy.

In a major relief to Imran Khan, the election commission today declared him the victor from four parliamentary constituencies, including Lahore, clearing the way for his swearing in as Pakistan's new Prime Minister.


Khan also hoped for India's participation in the SAARC summit, scheduled to be held in Islamabad.

PTI spokesperson Fawad Chauhdry on Thursday said: "Imran will be elected Prime Minister of the country within the first round of vote in the parliament".

In the same tweet he said the United States has been rewarded with "nothing but lies and deceit" for "foolishly" giving Pakistan more than $33 billion in aid in the past 15 years.

Pakistan went to polls on 25 July and the PTI had emerged as the single largest party with 116 seats, after the ECP released the complete results for 270 of 272 National Assembly (NA) constituencies. In his victory speech last month, Khan had said that Pakistan wanted to have a mutually beneficial relationship with the US.
