Maurizio Sarri anticipates early season 'problems' before Chelsea reach full potential

Maurizio Sarri feels Chelsea will continue to improve under his stewardship, but the club's new coach will not aim to repeat his winning formula from Napoli. Willian's delivery from the left evaded Huddersfield's cover and Kante's mistimed volley span into the ground and inside the far post.

Chelsea were lacking dynamism and conviction as Huddersfield sat deep and proved hard to break down, but Pedro's driving run and pass out to Willian enabled the Brazilian to pick out Kante, who scuffed a left-footed volley into the ground and inside the far post in the 34th minute.

"We started very well, on the front foot, and then the first goal came out of nothing".

It was interesting that, when asked about transfers, Sarri only ever mentioned that he might like another midfielder.

Further, talking about his future now that former boss Conte has left the club, the Brazilian global added, "I have my head here and I intend to continue in the club unless the club wants to sell me".

"I have to respect the characteristics of the players, I have to adapt myself to the characteristics of the championship and of the players, so now I am studying my players". All afternoon Kante made smart, purposeful runs beyond the three forwards that, on more than one occasion, his colleagues frustratingly did not spot or pick them out.

Then Kante popped up with his goal to prove his "no end product" critics wrong.

MF Jorginho, 8 - Chelsea's new midfield general looked composed and creative throughout as he confidently played give-and-go football with his teammates. Under Sarri, they could be maximised.

Bundesliga side RB Leipzig once built a temporary wall in the away changing room to split the physio area and allow him space to smoke pre kick off and at half and full time. Alex Pritchard and Steven Mounie combined well at times in the first half, but produced few clear-cut chances. Their play was much more fluid; they adopted the style of football Sarri likes his teams to play. Ultimately, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Chelsea's new £72m goalkeeper, had little to do.

"If you want to get something out of these games, you have to be at your very best", said Wagner.

Sarri is known as a real character in the game and hit headlines last season for smoking in the tunnel while accompanied by personal bodyguards.

"Liverpool have spent so much money and the way that Man City dominated it previous year, expectations are on them a little bit more".
