India expresses well wishes to Pakistan on Independence Day

The day began with a 31-gun salute in the capital, followed by 21-gun salutes in all four provincial capitals.

"This is the day when our hopes materialise", said President Mamnoon.

Speaking to the media after laying floral wreath and offering fateha at the Quaid's mazar, Caretaker Sindh Chief Minister Fazalur Rehman said the father of the nation, Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, had a dream to make Pakistan a welfare state.

Parades, patriotic songs and award ceremonies are also held throughout Pakistan.

The consul general, surrounded by children wearing Pakistani dresses and holding Pakistani flags, cut a cake to commemorate independence day.

Pakistan Rangers officials at the Wagah border crossing exchanged candies with Indian Border Security Force personnel.

"It is a reminder that the way this country had come into being with the people's will, in the same manner, the decisions regarding its fate will be made through the vote", he said, adding that the Pakistani nation had stamped this very principle on July 25.

As part of the festivities, the Pakistani flag will fly in front of city hall while celebrations take place across the street in Olympic Plaza. The national flag was hoisted.

Khan also urged the expatriate community to "remember their Kashmiri brethren on this auspicious day who are facing human rights violation in Indian-occupied Kashmir".

As Independent India celebrates 72 years of Independence, Bollywood celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra, Anushka Sharma, Sushmita Sen, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, Dharmendra, Yami Gautam, Taapsee Pannu extended their best wishes to everyone. "On August 14, our resolve is further renewed". Google celebrates 15th August with a doodle inspired by art seen on trucks on Indian roads. The day, since then, is celebrated with much aplomb and revelry.
