Xiaomi India refreshes Redmi series with 3 devices

The company has launched the Redmi 6A, Redmi 6 and the Redmi 6 Pro smartphones, which vary in prices, specs and features.

Xiaomi has launched three new affordable phones or what they call the "desh ke smartphones" in India.

The Redmi 6 Pro is the most advanced phone in the Redmi 6 family.

Interestingly, Xiaomi mentions that this is an introductory price that will be in place for the first two months, following which the prices will increase.

The Redmi 6 comes in two variants, one with 3GB RAM/32GB of internal storage and its introductory price is Rs 7,999. The base model of the Redmi 6 with 3GB RAM/32GB storage will be available for Rs 7,999, while the second model that comes with 3GB/64GB will sell for Rs 9,499. The Redmi 6 goes on sale for the first time on September 10 on Flipkart and Mi Store. The additions go a long way in making the new Redmi 6 phones a great option if you're in the market for an entry-level phone.

The Redmi 6 Pro is the top-end smartphone in the Redmi 6 series and like its siblings comes in two variants.

Let's see what comes in the box.

Redmi 6 Pro 3GB RAM + 32GB storage is priced at Rs 10,999 while 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant is priced at Rs 12,999. Xiaomi will start selling the device on September 11th at Mi.com and Amazon.com. HDFC credit/debit customers will get the same Rs 500 off on purchase. All three smartphones come under the sub Rs 15,000 price bracket. It has a polycarbonate back panel with the feel of brushed metal surface and has an arc design.


Powering the Redmi 6A is the MediaTek Helio A22 SoC. Xiaomi says this is the only phone in this segment with a 12nm processor. As a result, the phone has a 19:9 aspect ratio which provides users with much more screen area to play on.

Xiaomi has also added phase-detection autofocus (PDAF) and Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS) to the camera. The selfie camera is a 5MP unit with AI Portrait and AI Face Unlock features. The Redmi 6A also has AI face unlock, and unlock with Mi Band or unlock in a trusted environment with the smart unlock feature. All the three phones have dual nano-SIM card and a microSD card slot onboard. The company has promised to soon roll out MIUI 10 for the phone. The display is also exactly the same: 5.45-inches with 18:9 aspect ratio and 1440×720 resolution.

Next up is the Redmi 6 which Xiaomi is billing as the "smartphone for everyone". The smartphone is powered by a MediaTek Helio P22 Octa-Core processor, which is clocked at 2.0GHz. The smaller transistors in the processor's design ensure better battery performance, efficiency, claims Xiaomi. The Redmi 6 has a fingerprint sensor and AI face unlock. The device features a dual rear camera setup consisting of a 12MP primary sensor and a 5MP secondary sensor, which also has the AI support for Portrait mode. The device is backed by a 3000mAh battery that is said to deliver up to 12 hours of video playback. This smartphone ships with MIUI 9.6 and will be upgraded to MIUI 10 later, Xiaomi said.

Coming to the Redmi 6 Pro, the smartphone features a 5.84-inch Full HD+ "notch" screen with a 19:9 display aspect ratio. There is also an option to hide the notch in the device's settings.

-The Redmi 6 and the Redmi 6 Pro come with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

The phone runs on a Snapdragon 625 processor, paired with 3GB/4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB storage (expandable up to 256GB).

It comes with 12MP+5MP rear camera setup, a 5MP front camera, and packs a 4,000mAh battery. The camera setup is similar to the Redmi Note 5 Pro. Battery: Same battery capacity Both the smartphones are backed by a 4000 mAh battery, which claim to two days of battery backup.
