Shootings In Bakersfield, California Leave 6 Dead, Police Say

The shooter first targeted his wife, and then a man at a trucking company in Bakersfield, Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood said, news agency Reuters reported.

The gunman then went to a home where he shot two people, the sheriff continued.

CBS 13 reports that investigators say the man behind the shootings is among the dead and shot himself in the chest.

When asked if this was a mass shooting, the sheriff said "absolutely".

It was also not known what had sparked the shootings, which saw all six people die in a short amount of time, Mr Youngblood said.

"It's very unusual to have six people killed in one incident", NBC quoted him as saying. Minimally, a handgun was involved, he said. Youngblood presented this account of what allegedly happened.

The gunman fled the area, going to a nearby residence and fatally shooting two more people. In the meantime, brace for more unnecessary and over-the-top anti-gun rhetoric from the usual suspects. They both managed to escape unharmed.

Youngblood said the officer who confronted the suspect after the carjacking wore a body camera, but the footage has not been released. "Obviously there's some type of situation that caused the husband to be completely upset", he said. However, authorities said they are still investigating the specific motive for the mass shooting.

There were firearms recovered.

Authorities said it could take days to interview all witnesses and gather evidence from the multiple crime scenes. Another man entered the business and tried to run.
