Dele Alli and Hugo Lloris ruled out of Liverpool match

Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris will be missing for "several weeks" with a thigh injury, but will remain in his role as captain when he returns to full fitness, confirmed Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino on Thursday.

"He's the first that regrets everything, and all that happened yesterday is not good", he said.

Spurs will be without captain Hugo Lloris and midfielder Dele Alli for Saturday's lunchtime clash with Liverpool. He doesn't feel great. He made a mistake and is suffering, and is punishing himself.

Lloris was fined £50,000 and banned from driving for 20 months on Wednesday after being convicted of drink-driving in his Porsche in the early hours of a morning last month.

"But I think everyone can make a mistake. Now I need to pay like a man".

There is slightly better news concerning Moussa Sissoko as the midfielder is due to resume training next week following a hamstring injury but he's still ruled out of the Liverpool game while young defender Juan Foyth is edging closer to his comeback after returning to training last week.

"He is going to do another scan to see how is the evolution of his injury", Pochettino told Sky Sports.

The World Cup victor will miss this weekend's match against Liverpool with a hamstring injury but his club will not be taking any additional action. "I am disappointed because we are going to miss him for this game and maybe the Champions League game against Inter Milan [on September 18]". "But the most important thing is it is not a big issue and he will be available as soon as possible".

Tottenham are fifth in the Premier League after they lost 2-1 to Watford, while Liverpool are top, having won all four games.
