NASCAR Cup Series: Kasey Kahne to miss next three races

NASCAR Cup Series: Kasey Kahne to miss next three races

"I just can't control the temperature in my body and my heart rate". That's why I'm not racing.

Kahne, who announced in August he will stop racing full-time to focus on his son and his sprint vehicle teams, went to the Darlington infield care center after the 500-mile Labor Day weekend race with symptoms of dehydration. "I want to continue racing in some capacity for many years to come in whatever division that may be".

In a teleconference last week, Kahne said he had been dealing with heat exhaustion issues at the end of the NASCAR races since last season but the Darlington race "was the worst that it's been".

Kahne now is in 28th place in the NASCAR Cup standings. Last weekend, he revealed that his ongoing health issue played a major part in that decision.

The three races that Kahne is set to miss are the three races that make up the first round, the round of 16, of this season's Cup Series playoffs.

"People want to know why I just don't retire and sit out the rest of the season", Kahne writes on Wednesday (Sept. 12) after health issues has kept him out of the auto. He finished 20th at Indianapolis on Monday.

Driver Kasey Kahne celebrates after winning the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Coca-Cola 600 autorace in Concord, North Carolina May 27, 2012.

Here is what the 18-time Cup Series race victor had to say about the matter, according to NBC Sports Network. The plan of having Smith in the No. 95 for the next three races has him driving the auto at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on September 16, Richmond Raceway in Virginia on September 22, and September 30 on the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval in North Carolina. In 214 career series starts, his stats also include four top-fives and 13 top-10 finishes.
