Plane carrying body of Pakistani ex-PM Nawaz Sharif's wife reaches Lahore

Her sons - Hassan and Hussain Nawaz - did not return to the country from London for the funeral.

Nawaz reportedly excused himself from meeting visitors who arrived at his residence in Raiwand to offer condolences and spent time in his room with close family members and friends.

According to reports, a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight carrying the body of Kulsoom Nawaz will leave for Lahore from the Heathrow Airport, London on Thursday and land at the Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore early on Friday.

Shehbaz Sharif along with Kulsoom Nawaz's daughter Asma, grandson (Hussain Nawaz's son) and other family members will bring her body back to Pakistan.

MMA Chief Maulana Fazl ur Rehman also reached Jati Umra to offer condolences to Nawaz Sharif on the death of his wife.

The PML-N president had also shared that his brother and niece were adamant that they won't submit a request for parole to be able to attend Kulsoom Nawaz's funeral.

The funeral prayers were attended by her sons Hassan and Hussain, brother-in-law Shehbaz Sharif, former ministers Chaudhry Nisar and Ishaq Dar among others.

Former premier Nawaz Sharif underwent a medical check-up at Sharif Medical City after his health reportedly deteriorated after the demise of his wife Kulsoom Nawaz. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Peoples Party's delegations will attend the funeral prayers, Geo News reported.

Their parole was extended to 4 pm on September 17. Her funeral will be held on the same day and she will be buried at the Sharif family graveyard in Jati Umra.

The home department said the period of parole has been extended until 12 am on Monday.

Kulsoom Nawaz died in a London hospital on Tuesday after a long battle with cancer.

Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam and son-in-law Capt (retd) M Safdar, now serving jail terms in the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi after being convicted by an accountability court in a corruption case in July, have been released on parole to attend Kulsoom Nawaz's funeral.
