Delhi cop's son beats woman; arrested after Rajnath Singh intervenes

The first case was registered on Thursday at the Tilak Nagar police station in West Delhi following a complaint by the accused Rohit Tomar's girlfriend alleging that he showed her a video in which he could be seen thrashing a woman, Deputy Commission of Police (DCP West) Monika Bhardwaj said.

On the video that was widely shared, the man, identified as Rohit Tomar, the son of a sub-inspector Ashok Singh Tomar, is seen telling the woman, "Don't take his name again", as he hits her.

The content of the video, which shows the accused slapping and using his elbows and knees to maximize the pain inflicted on the woman, was so horrific that it prompted the Minister of Home Affairs to tweet an appeal to the Delhi Police Commissioner to take action.

Police have registered a case of rape and assault against the youth, Rohit Tomar.

When Tomar allegedly threatened her again, the woman again approached the police.

In the video, Tomar is seen dragging the woman and brutally assaulting her. Reportedly, the girl had broken off with the accused some three months back and he has been harassing her ever since. Police said that the video was shot on 2 September in Uttam Nagar and that they are on the lookout for the accused who is believed to be the son of a Delhi Police sub-inspector.

Singh intervened after coming to know about the viral video in which the accused - Rohit Tomar - was seen pulling the girl by the hair and brutally thrashing her.

The video was filmed by Tomar's friend, who is heard in the background saying: "Rohit, stop it.Enough!"

The home minister's order came after the video went viral since on social media.

The DCW had sent a notice to the SHO of Tilak Nagar and sought factual report of the incident and copy of the FIR. On Friday, Singh took to Twitter to inform that he had taken the cognisance of the case and ordered the Delhi Police to act.
