Texas A&M came in at No. 1 on the list, with a revenue of $184 million and profit of $107 million. Over the same time period, Texas football averaged $133 million in revenue, making the Longhorns a distant second. Our list of college football's most valuable teams ranks the nation's top programs by average annual revenue, rounded to the nearest million.

Alabama and Ohio State round out the top five.

In December, Texas A&M lured coach Jimbo Fisher from Florida State with a 10-year, $75 million fully guaranteed contract. The school is also paying Texas A&M is paying Kevin Sumlin $10.4 million, the amount that remained on his guaranteed contract when he was sacked on November 26. The Aggies edged out Texas, who had long held the title of the most valuable team in college football.

According to the report, increased athletic department contributions and more money from ticket sales and its share of SEC revenue accounted for A&M's jump.

Forbes magazine on Tuesday released its list of most valuable college football programs based on estimate averages for profits and revenue for the 2014, '15 and '16 seasons.

Texas A&M opened a renovated Kyle Field in 2015 after a $485 million overhaul. On top of that, UT gets $31 million from licensing, royalties, and advertising, which is 50 percent more than any other team makes from that revenue stream.
