Seattle Storm sweep Washington Mystics to capture WNBA championship

Despite scoring a then-Finals record 32 points, Sales' shot did not fall as the Storm evened the series and then won the third-and-decisive Game 3 two days later to win their first WNBA title.

"To start the game (Sunday), we got second touches for Stewie in situations ... and they were paint touches", Storm coach Dan Hughes told the Seattle Times.

James, of course, knows how it is to be on the other end of a championship loss and wanted to recognize the Mystics for their season.

With Mystics star Elena Delle Donne appearing to get stronger with each passing day, the Storm can't afford to give away any games.

The Mystics lost Game 2, 75-73, meaning just one successful 3-pointer could have made the difference.

These playoffs will be remembered for Sue Bird's masked heroics in the fourth quarter. Howard capped her breakout season with 29 points (on 11 of 14 shooting) with a game-high 14 rebounds. "They've just said, 'OK, whatever you put in front of us, we'll deal with it'". "I'm just so thankful that we were both playing in Russian Federation at the time and that we just met because we connected instantly, and that's been my person that I go to about everything in my life".

In 2004, she partnered with Lauren Jackson and Finals MVP Betty Lennox for an unexpected Finals win. "Elena [Delle Donne] and Kristi and Ariel Atkins, Tianna Hawkins, they're all top-level, top-10 3-point shooters", Thibault said.

"We can really create something here, and I think we've really grown this fan base", said Delle Donne. "So we ran into each other in the lounge, and obviously we knew each other before that, but not that well". Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner were not with the team for those two games due to their participation in the WNBA playoffs, but did join them for the trip to France. I didn't know (Toliver's' favorite) beer.

Toliver, seated next to the first-team All-WNBA player, chimed in. In order for the Mystics to win it all, they'd have to win three straight games, something that has never been done before in a best-of-five finals.

Washington had one last push in the fourth quarter, cutting Seattle's lead to just five points with less than seven minutes left in the game behind a huge 3-point bucket from Tierra Ruffin-Pratt. In Game 3, the Storm were outplayed by the Mercury, who received dominant performances from DeWanna Bonner, Brittney Griner and unlikely hero Yvonne Turner.

"We had a lot of growing up to do and maturing to do and this group really hasn't played together long as a group, he said".

This is likely just the beginning for the dynamic 24-year-old forward, who won the NCAA Championship during each of her four seasons at the University of CT.

In July Bird said that she believed Stewart opening up about her past had a connection to the maturity she's seen in Stewart this year, also noting that on the court she seemed more confident and driven.

"It didn't feel like my first WNBA finals closeout game", the poised Stewart said.
