Tyrod Taylor to remain Cleveland Browns' starting quarterback

"It was good to get that experience and that feeling underneath me, especially an overtime game, the weather and everything".

By going 15-of-40 passing (37.5 percent) for 197 yards and a touchdown with an interception for a rating of 51.8, Taylor finished with a sub-50 completion percentage for just the second time in his 44 career starts.

"He is the quarterback", Jackson said of Taylor.

Taylor and the Browns will look to get things back on track when they take on the New Orleans Saints at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday, and in order for the offense to be more successful, Jackson knows it will take a complete effort from all 11 players.

"The game's over now", Jackson said. "I'm just going to keep on running until I have the opportunity".

Jackson stiffened when he was asked what kind of leash he intends to have on Taylor, who was acquired in March from Buffalo and will start until the Browns feel the No. 1 overall pick Mayfield is ready. "His job is to get the offense to play the best they can play". "He played on the first play, and that was a mistake", Jackson said.

Taylor and Gordon each had one of their least productive outings this past weekend.

"We can do a better job of getting him the ball and getting him opportunities to make plays", Taylor said. Jackson said Monday it was a case of "miscommunication". We have to play better as an offensive unit. "But that's just how the game goes". Despite claims that Gordon wouldn't start in the opener, he started and played 69-of-89 snaps, finishing with just 1 catch on 3 targets, although the lone snag was a lovely 17-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Confusion arose because Gordon had missed a good part of training camp and preseason as part of his treatment for substance abuse.

Gordon added he wasn't focused on individual statistics and didn't even realize he'd been thrown to three times until after the game. "Got to give him a chance to get the ball".

Regarding injuries, Jackson said defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah has an ankle injury that will require him to miss some games, though the coach did not provide more specifics. I expect nothing less than for him to bounce back in a major way. He's got to continue to work to be in the right spot.
