WTA Hiroshima: Amanda Anisimova claims her first tour semifinals

American qualifier Amanda Anisimova will face Zhang for a place in the final after 17-year-old secured her maiden WTA semi-final appearance at the expense of Anna Schmiedlova.

"She's definitely a tough player, one of the toughest I've played", Anisimova told the WTA website. She rallied from 3-1 down to win the first set in a tiebreaker and broke Shuai's serve twice in the second to claim victory in 1 hour, 48 minutes.

Prior to that tournament, she had played only two tour-level main draw matches (l. Townsend at 2017 Miami; l. Nara 2017 Roland Garros).

9 Petrova in 2005.

Her opponent in the final will be second-seeded Su-Wei Hsieh of Taiwan.

She lacked the poise that allowed her to reach Sunday's final, double faulting five times and making 23 unforced errors.

And there could be an all-Chinese final at this hard-court event, after Wang Qiang progressed to the last four thanks to a routine 6-2 6-2 defeat of Magda Linette, the runner-up in 2015.

After losing the opening two games, Wang powered through to take the next eight in succession.
