Anderson Leads Team World's Laver Cup Charge

Borg, flanked by vice-captain and fellow Swede Thomas Enqvist, added: "Last year there was some unbelievable tennis played in Prague, we had a lot of fun and for me to spend a little time with these great players for a week was unbelievable". Lest fans forget, they have, in the 12 years of that rivalry, played 46 times and, aside from occasional round-robin meetings at the ATP World Tour Finals, have met only in finals and semi-finals since Dubai in 2007. He and Federer are among the veteran greats on the team.

Twenty-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer of Switzerland is once again joined on the blue side by Germany's Alexander Zverev as well as newcomers Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria, David Goffin of Belgium, Kyle Edmund of Great Britain and 14-time major victor Novak Djokovic of Serbia.

"As a half-court specialist, I trust my abilities out there and teaming up with Kevin who has a monstrous serve, great return, good hands", Sock continued.

Team World comprises non-playing captain and vice-captain John and Patrick McEnroe, along with Anderson, Isner, Schwartzman, Sock, Tiafoe and Nick Kyrgios.

"The doubles is going to be really crucial as we saw past year".

"Obviously, as Roger said", noted Djokovic, "very, very excited to have the unique experience".

The event is named in honour of tennis hero Rod Laver, who won a record 200 singles titles, 11 grand slam crowns and five Davis Cups for Australia.

Will they defend their crown at the United Center from Sept 21-23?

Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic will team up for doubles Friday, the second match of the night session on Day 1 of the Laver Cup.

Both singles and doubles are best-of-three sets with ad scoring.

What is the Laver Cup? If the players split sets, they go straight to a 10-point tiebreaker.

The way the exhibition format works is that the matches on the first day are worth one point each.

The winning team must reach 13 points.

"I did have an inkling they would play, but I am surprised they would play the first day".

Each player will play at least one singles match during the first two days of the three-day event, while no player will play singles more than twice. We never played doubles together. No doubles combination can be played a couple of times, unless for the doubles decider on Day 3, if points are tied at 12-all. Match-ups will be determined one after the end of each day's play through the exchange of lineup cards by the captains.
