Transformers: 'Bumblebee' International Trailer Has New Footage Optimus Prime, Cybertron

Transformers: 'Bumblebee' International Trailer Has New Footage Optimus Prime, Cybertron

As we've already seen from the teaser, the film is set in the 80s - with a sweeter, gentler Iron Giant vibe replacing Bay's usual bombast.

Paramount knew exactly what it was doing when it chose to set Bumblebee's spinoff movie in the 1980s. Why?

Directed by Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings), the film stars Hailee Steinfeld (Edge of Seventeen), Pamela Adlon (Better Things), John Cena (Daddy's Home 2), Stephen Schneider (Comedy Central's Broad City), Jorge Lendeborg Jr.

Bumblebee is just the first step in Paramount's plans to expand the Transformers movie franchise.

More importantly, it has plenty of G1 character designs too - with Bumblebee (and Optimus Prime, glimpsed in a hologram) returned to the plasticky shapes we all know and love.

The synopsis of the film reads, "On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town". Bumblebee hits theaters December 21.

Bumblebee attempts to brush the sand out of Charlie Watson's (Hailee Steinfeld) hair after he transforms from vehicle to Autobot, in the new trailer. The new Bumblebee trailer shows that young Charlie Watson (Hailee Steinfeld) gets more than she bargained for when she buys an old yellow Volkswagen Beetle for her 18th birthday and finds the Beetle transforming into Bumblebee, the little Autobot that could. There are also rumors that a film called Transformers One, which would reveal the origins of the Autobots and Decepticons, is in development, as well as plans for a crossover with GI Joe and other Hasbro properties. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.
