#BelieveSurvivors protests erupt in Washington against Brett Kavanaugh; dozens arrested

A lawyer representing Christine Blasey Ford, who is accusing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault, has raised concerns about the plans for the public hearing where Ford is expected to testify this week.

One of Brett Kavanaugh's Yale classmates has come forward to accuse him of sexual misconduct, claiming he thrust his penis in her face during a party in the 80s.

It was an extraordinary appearance for a nominee to the nation's highest court, one no such nominee had done before.

President Trump reaffirmed his support for Kavanaugh Monday.

Kavanaugh was referring to Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her at a party in the suburbs of Maryland when they both were in high school.

"In her initial conversations with The New Yorker, she was reluctant to characterize Kavanaugh's role in the alleged incident with certainty", the article stated. He said he did not question that perhaps Ford at some point in her life was sexually assaulted but said "what I know is I've never sexually assaulted anyone". "The other people who alleged to be present have said they do not remember any such party".

The committee has offered for Ford to share her testimony in public or private, or over the phone.

Ford, a psychology professor at Palo Alto University in California, said in an interview published in the Washington Post last week Kavanaugh attacked her and tried to remove her clothing while he was drunk at a party when he was 17 years old and she was 15. The GOP is on the brink of a midterm election that can only give control of the Senate back to Democrats if something odd happens ... and the Kavanaugh saga is becoming very unusual.

"I had never sexually assaulted anyone, not in high school, not ever", Kavanaugh said in an interview with Fox News.

"There's a chance that this could be one of the single most unfair, unjust things to happen to a candidate but I am with Judge Kavanaugh", Trump said in NY.

In a letter to the Judiciary panel, Mr Kavanaugh said: "These are smears, pure and simple". Gee, let's not make him a Supreme Court judge, ' Trump said.

"So if he doesn't get to be on the Supreme Court, maybe he'll be 'The Bachelor, '" Kimmel joked.

In the event that Kavanaugh's nomination does not go through, Trump might in turn nominate one of these judges, who were chosen from a list of 25 judges selected by the conservative Federalist Society.

Kavanaugh said he wouldn't "let false accusations" drive him out of the Supreme Court nomination process, but Kimmel says he has another gig in mind for the judge. Kavanaugh was defiant as well. "I never had any sexual or physical activity with Dr Ford", Kavanaugh said, adding, "What I know is the truth".

President Donald Trump also defended Kavanaugh on Monday, calling him a "fine man" and "a great scholar".

Ford and Kavanaugh are set to testify Thursday before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Republicans had been bullish about Kavanaugh's chances to ride out the storm, given that Ford did not appear to have any corroborating witnesses ready to testify. "I have always treated women with dignity and respect", Kavanaugh said. "The GOP and others better be very careful in trying to suggest that she is not credible", Avenatti tweeted, even as President Trump, Republicans loyal to him, and the conservative media questioned the bonafides of the women.

Earlier this week, actress Alyssa Milano helped elevate #WhyIDidntReport after she wrote a first-person piece for Vox about her own experience with being sexually assaulted as a teen. "She doesn't know if it was him but it might have him".
