Flyers introduce Gritty, their new team mascot

The reaction across the internet so far has been a mixture of fear and humor.but mostly fear.

If you don't like Gritty, it's probably not for you, and that's OK.

The team also welcomed Gritty into public society Monday with a 30-second, EDM-themed introductory video and his own Twitter account.

Others had other theories on what Gritty was supposed to be. Legend has it he earned the name "Gritty" for possessing an attitude so similar to the team he follows.

The team says some recent construction at Wells Fargo Center disturbed his secret hideout, forcing him to reveal himself for the first time publicly. He has some oddities that are both humorous and unusual.

"It looks like a cross of Snuffaluffagus and Oscar the Grouch", said one fan.

"The Flyers have always had a consistent and active presence in the market through events with our players, wives, and alumni".

The Flyers consulted Dave Raymond, the former Phillie Phanatic, during the process of designing Gritty.

See? Told you. Cold-blooded killer.

He added, "Looking at the smiles on these kids' faces, I know we did the right thing". Are you even a true fan of Philadelphia, the city of brotherly love?

Twitter was abuzz after the team's announcement Monday morning, mostly mocking the "talented but feisty" mascot. It's a city that, heroically, defeated the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl.

Which begs the question - Who is do you think is more terrifying: Gritty or Hunter?
