Robbie's 'Birds of Prey' gets 2020 release date

Birds of Prey doesn't have the mainstream character identifiability of fellow female-led DC title Wonder Woman, but if there was one thing people loved about Suicide Squad, it was Robbie's Harley Quinn.

The Oscar nominee will be back as in DC's Birds of Prey when it rolls into theatres February 7, 2020.

Birds of Prey is slated to be directed by Cathy Yan, with Suicide Squad's Margot Robbie reprising her role as Harley Quinn (as well as acting as a producer).

Details on the plots are now unknown, though the film will center around the titular team of female heroes and villains based on the DC Comics characters and concepts created by Jordan B. Gorfinkel and Chuck Dixon.

Reports surfaced last week that several actresses tested with Robbie including Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Jurnee Smolett-Bell, Margaret Qualley and Cristin Milioti. It was recently announced that several high profile actresses have been auditioning for key roles, with the Black Canary and Huntress now up for grabs. Warner Bros. has announced that the DC film will release on February 7th, 2020.

Casting is still ongoing, with Warner Bros. reportedly still in the process of testing talent to star opposite Robbie as the Black Canary and Huntress, as well as characters detective Renee Montoya and Cassandra Cain, as per The Hollywood Reporter. Together, they'll take on crime lord Black Mask, a Batman villain known for his sadism and in some versions of the character, mind control.
