Tiger Woods wins again

Tiger Woods wins again

Tiger Woods says he's "blessed" to be back after winning his first PGA Tour event in over five years following a long and painful return to form from a back injury.

He almost won the FedEx Cup, too, until Justin Rose survived a late meltdown with a birdie on the final hole.

And then came this week, Woods led wire-to-wire, and it felt like yesterday for Woods' fans, who took gleefully to social media and turned off a busy Sunday of NFL football to watch.

"I didn't want to get run over", Woods said later with a laugh.

Woods led the final round throughout, starting out with a three-shot lead, and finished 11-under-par at East Lake.

"I just can't believe I pulled this off after what I've gone through", he said afterwards.

The title takes Woods' PGA tally to 80 in his career, with only American Sam Snead ahead of him.

In May previous year, Woods was arrested on a driving under the influence charge after being found slumped at the wheel of his auto in Florida.

"He's played such good golf all year that it is just not surprising", Mickelson said.

Also stuck in those five years are multiple failed comeback attempts. Jason Day was the best of them in 18 place, Cameron Smith was 20 and Marc Leishman 21.

Rose birdied the 18th at East Lake for a 73 to seal the top-five finish he needed to win the $10m (£7.6m) bonus on offer as FexEx Cup champion.

Less than a year ago the 14-time Major victor found himself at 1,199 in the world rankings after having spinal fusion surgery. Rose made four bogeys and one birdie over his first 15 holes, and when he bogeyed the par-4 16th, the scenario became clear: Play the last two in 1 under or lose the cup.

2015 - Woods has a second microdiscectomy performed in September with a follow-up procedure six weeks later, forcing him to shut down his playing schedule indefinitely.

Wood's last tournament victory came 1875 days ago in August 2013 in the WGC Bridgestone Invitational.

"Tiger's played so well on a very hard golf course and we nearly kind of expected it".

"You know, I've explained throughout the year that I just didn't know whether - when this would ever happen again", Woods said. "When I was hitting that bunker shot, just like every weekend hacker, just whatever you do, 'Don't blade this thing out of bounds'".

Woods now goes to France, where he'll play in the Ryder Cup with the rest of his usa teammates.
