Ilkay Gundogan reveals Cardiff City win is blueprint for success moving forward

Pep Guardiola was a delighted man after seeing his Manchester City side swamp Cardiff City 5-0 and the Catalan singled out Riyad Mahrez and Sergio Aguero for praise after their massive Premier League victory on Saturday.

Neil Warnock reignited his feud with Pep Guardiola before Manchester City's return to Cardiff by reminding him that Kevin De Bruyne was guilty of a risky challenge on one of his players the previous time that they met.

Before their trip to Anfield, City face Oxford United in the EFL Cup, Brighton and Hove Albion in the league and Hoffenheim in the Champions League.

The Germany man, though, is already looking forward to the meeting on Sunday, October 7 - the last game before the worldwide break. "We play Liverpool in a couple of weeks so it will be a real test for us at Anfield".

City's dropped points against Wolves last month is what separates them from leaders Liverpool, who have a 100 per cent record, but being in the chasing pack can offer a psychological advantage - especially if your team is playing the way the champions did against Cardiff.

"But it's up to us in the end". "We know it was hard to play after the Champions League game but the manager told us to be ready for this game because it's never easy, especially away at Cardiff", said Mahrez. "It happens in all the games and now we try to make a good performance". City were particularly keen to make up for their shock 2-1 loss to Lyon at the Etihad Stadium and nearly tried too hard to make amends in the opening half-hour until, typically, it was Aguero who calmed them with a fine opener.

"He played well. He's a guy who's going to help us a lot".

Their only slight stumble came against top-flight new boys Wolves in a 1-1 draw, while their five wins have produced a huge 18 goals in their favour.
