Google unveils its own Chrome OS tablet, the Pixel Slate

Google launched its line of high-end phones two years ago to better compete against Apple, Samsung and other device makers. "Pixel 3 XL's specs are almost identical, though, the display is 6.3" QHD AMOLED (2960×1440) with a top notch and the battery size is 3450mAh.

A new feature, called "Top Shot" shoots a bunch of pictures in burst mode and then uses an algorithm to select the best one. Super Res Zoom is a computational photography technique, traditionally used for astronomy and scientific imaging, that produces sharp details even when zooming into the subject.

The Pixel 3 lets you take natural-looking photos in dark surroundings, all without a flash. With Night Sight, you can take bright, detailed, colourful shots around the campfire, in a moonlit forest, or a selfie as you're headed out of that dimly-lit club. Photobooth mode uses AI to recognise that when you're smiling or making a amusing expression, you're ready for a selfie.

The Pixel 3 camera experience also lets you edit depth of field and more in portrait mode (as in the new iPhones), features a photo booth mode, and improves motion auto-focus to keep objects in focus as they move around the frame.

Rick Osterloh, who runs Google's hardware efforts and introduced the new smartphone models, is banking on the latest Pixels to make a dent in the market.

The Pixel Slate has a look and feel like what we would expect from a Pixel product. Both also allow you to control your smart home and make requests of Alexa. It's hassle-free, you don't have to think about back-ups.

The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL will be available on October 18. There are no clear winners when it comes to user trust, but it's safe to say a smart home device without a camera is less creepy than a device with a really good one.

Because the design team learned that many people leave their phones on their nightstand to charge, the Stand enables a new setting in the Pixel 3 that mimics sunrise alarm clocks, slowly turning the screen from deep red to a bright yellow to wake you up. To scan and translate text, find similar styles of clothing, or identify popular plants and animals, you can now long press in the Pixel 3 camera to easily open Lens.

Called "call screen", the tool will answer incoming phone calls on your behalf and transcribe what the caller is saying on your device's screen. The lack of the headphone jack would mean you will be forced to use either a wireless headphone or wired Type-C ones. There have been a couple of big announcements, so in case you missed them, here's a quick recap of everything released today.

On the rear, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL is covered entirely in glass.

The Pixel Slate does seem to be positioned as an addition to, but not a replacement for, the Pixelbook.

The battery in the Google Pixel 3 XL meanwhile is a 3,430mAh one, down from 3,520mAh in the Google Pixel 2 XL. This is where Pixel Stand comes in, a new Google-made accessory that acts as a wireless charging dock for the devices. And there's also Flip to Shhh, which will mute notifications if you set the phone screen down. Just know that you can also bring an unlocked Pixel to Verizon and have it work identically to one purchased from the carrier.

Both also have 4GB of RAM and come in 64GB and 128GB storage options. Both phones still have front-facing speakers, but the Pixel 3 XL's are supposedly 40% louder and richer.

The Pixel 3 starts at £739 for 64GB of memory but goes up to £839 if customers want 128GB. The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL also feature 2,915mAh and 3,430mAh batteries, respectively.
