The work of 28 global experts as well as people who have experienced mental illness, the document calls for an end to human rights abuses such as shackling in their homes or institutions, torture and imprisonment against mental health patients - and makes special mention of the Life Esidimeni tragedy. "Yet for too long, mental health has been mostly an afterthought, despite its overwhelming impacts on communities and young people, everywhere". Mental health is just like physical health: everybody has it and we need to take care of it. "Let us be more accepting of those with mental health challenges including our young people who continue to face many challenges in their daily lives".

India is standing on the threshold of a mental health epidemic with a greater number of people affected by mental health issues in the country than the entire population of Japan.

I think one of the issues that powers the stigma surrounding mental health is a lack of confidence or awareness of how to start a conversation on the topic.

A recent survey of 440 small business owners conducted by mental health advocacy group Everymind found the rates of symptoms associated with depression and anxiety are higher than the national average.

Another point is that mental health problems can affect all age-groups.
