Marriott Marquis City Center Doha Hotel goes pink this October

John Bel Edwards proclaimed October 2018 as Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the state of Louisiana to bring an increased awareness to this disease that impacts more than 3.1 million survivors in the United States.

"That they're like, 'oh, well, breast cancer has never been in my family". The symphony will also have oncologists give testimonials and will show video interviews from community members about their breast cancer stories.

After skin cancers, breast cancer is the most common cancer among USA women, according to the American Cancer Society.

"The cancer is gone and I'm still here", Connie said.

Previous Breast Cancer Awareness Month concerts sponsored by the hospital include "The Greatness of Mahler", with Gustav Mahler's Fifth Symphony, and "Celebration and Reverence", featuring Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony and a solo by the concertmaster, Emma Rubinstein.

Bright Pink is a national nonprofit that focuses on the prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer in young women, Gonzales said.

So far this year, we have dedicated $12 million to fund a wide range of research projects related to breast cancer.

Smith encourages women to get screened for breast cancer during October.

Smith wants people to know a breast cancer diagnosis isn't a death sentence, especially if you are on top of your breast cancer screenings and if breast cancer is detected at an early stage.

"Those who have been diagnosed with breast cancer before are three to four times more likely to develop a new cancer in the other breast or somewhere else in the same breast", said Richard Budde, MD, radiologist, KentuckyOne Health Breast Care.

Women can become familiar with their breast tissue by looking at and feeling their breasts.

"I got the plates to honor her originally so it's just nice to have her here to see it all come together and kind of why, she's the why behind it for me", Varona said.

All women should be aware of what is normal for their breasts even if they get regular screening tests.

"A few months post surgery, she never felt better", she said.
