Modric V Ronaldo Rematch As Ballon D'or Nominees Unveiled

Brazil's Marta, crowned best women's player for a record sixth time at last month's Federation Internationale de Football Association awards, is also in contention after her role in winning the Copa America.

Kylian Mbappe has climbed into second place among Europe's top goalscorers, while Lionel Messi dropped down the top 10 and Cristiano Ronaldo remained shy of Europe's deadliest marksmen.

Specialist magazine France Football, which has awarded the prize since 1956, announced the 30 nominees for the calendar year trophy, among whom a victor will be chosen by a group of respected football journalists from around the world.

Modric, a World Cup runner-up with Croatia, beat Juventus' Ronaldo and Salah to win the Federation Internationale de Football Association prize last month after Messi was surprisingly left off the final three-man list.

The Spain global, who was named in the FIFA FIFPro World 11 last month, has not been included in the latest group of five nominees for France Football's individual prize. The victor of the prestigious Ballon d'Or organised by France Football magazine will be announced on December 3.

Alisson joined the club from AS Roma during the summer after helping the Serie A side reach the Champions League semi-finals last season and having represented Brazil at the World Cup.

Another man on the list who was part of Real's Champions League success is Luka Modric, who went on to lead Croatia on their run to the World Cup final.

Others are: Edinson Cavani from Uruguay, Paris St Germain; Thibaut Courtois from Belgium, Real Madrid; Cristiano Ronaldo from Portugal, Juventus; Kevin De Bruyne from Belgium, Manchester City.

The ceremony to announce the victor will take place in Paris on 3 December, when a women's award will also be presented for the first time.

Teenage sensation Mbappe scored four goals in Paris Saint-Germain's 5-0 win over Olympique Lyon, taking his Ligue 1 tally for the campaign to eight strikes.
