‘Pet Sematary’ Trailer: Paramount Reanimates Classic Stephen King Graveyard Chiller

Directed by Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer, Pet Sematary stars Jason Clarke, Amy Seimetz, Jeté Laurence, Hugo and Lucas Lavoie, and John Lithgow. Paramount has revived the 1983 novel-turned-1989 movie into what it's hoping will be another slam dunk adaptation of Stephen King's work, following on from Warner Bros' box office-storming success with last year's It. "Louis Creed", his wife, two children and cat are welcomed into their new home by a neighbor who warns them of the eerie "Pet Sematary" located near their home.

Creepy drumming pervades most of the trailer, which opens with the Creed family moving into their new home. "Kids used to dare each other to go into the woods at night". "They knew the power of that place", he says as footage of young children walking across the forest floor, banging on tiny toy drums and wearing haunting animal masks, plays out on screen.

"It may be just some insane folk tale, but there is something in those woods, something that brings things back", Lithgow's character says in the trailer. This is the second time eastern Canada has filled in for ME in a King movie in recent years; both the "IT" remake and its upcoming sequel were filmed in Port Hope, Ontario. The directors previously made cult horror Starry Eyes, which is a disturbing look at fame and Hollywood and a very good sign for this particular reboot.

Pet Sematary is slated for release on April 5, 2019.
