Star Trek: Discovery season 2 premiere date revealed; new trailer

Spock made his first appearance in a trailer for the new season, set to premiere January 17, 2019.

Star Trek: Discovery has gone a long way in preserving the essence of inclusivity and the socio-political messages of the original series. Ten years before Kirk, Spock and the Enterprise, the USS Discovery discovers new worlds and lifeforms as one Starfleet officer learns to understand all things alien. "It's like nothing you've seen before!"

It was also revealed during the panel that Sonequa Martin-Green's husband, Kenric Green, will appear in an undisclosed role in Star Trek: Discovery Season 2. It will be available in multiple covers, with connecting covers by Messina and retailer incentive variant covers by George Caltsoudas ("Star Trek vs. Transformers") and J.K. Woodward ("Star Trek: The Next Generation - Mirror Broken").

Now, with Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) on board and an ever-growing supporting cast, fans can possibly look forward to a show that embraces some of its quirky science-fiction fun as well.

"I'm working with Anson Mount, who plays an incredible Captain Pike, and we have discussed Mr. Spock".

Meanwhile, Jones teased his role as Commander Saru.

The return of this classic character's facial hair could also be big for progressive rock band, Spock's Beard. But he is definitely back, telling the crowd, "We find him where we left him".

However, they did warm to each other by the end of season one.

The controversial look of the Klingons from the first season will continue to evolve, according to Alex Kurtzman, who maintains that they are "trying to maintain the spirit of the old while using new makeup techniques". "We all wait for the scripts and we'll see what happens". The world evolution was also thrown out there, and we'll get to go to the Kelpien homeworld of Kaminar (that's the first time we've heard that planet name mentioned) as well and we get to meet Saru's sister.

Mount added that "the writers did a very good job of creating a new Captain Pike", while exploring what we already know about him.
