Ben Affleck Signs For New Movie With Gavin O'Connor

Dave Bautista, who plays Drax in the movies, tweeted: "Where do I sign up!" alongside a link to the news that James Gunn was writing the new Suicide Squad.

Of course, what any of this means precisely is unclear and will likely remain that way until DC and Warner Bros. decide to make an official and more detailed announcement about the matter. It's not like they're standing around waiting for his approval. This comes after Gunn was sacked from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after alt-right figures unearthed inappropriate and offensive old tweets from Gunn, who is reported to write and possibly direct this DC movie.

The director was sacked from the Disney franchise of films after tweets from years ago saw revealed jokes in poor taste, concerning rape and pedophilia - since then, Gunn has apologised and said he had grown as a person in the years since the jokes. The first Suicide Squad movie notably tried to ape the success of Guardians Of The Galaxy in its marketing and with its soundtrack, taking a random selection of classic rock tunes and throwing them over scenes seemingly at random. Now, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Gunn will be joining the camp as a writer and possibly direct the Suicide Squad sequel as well.

"I think it's an incredibly fearless and smart move by the studio", he wrote. "The offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James' Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studio's values, and we have severed our business relationship with him", Walt Disney Studios chairperson Alan Horn had said at the time.

Ayer denied studio interference, insisting re-shoots were intended only to add even more action.

The Gavin O'Connor Suicide Squad 2 movie is actually rumored to have been spun into the Birds of Prey Margot Robbie Harley Quinn film, which gets released February 20, 2020 also starring Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, with Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress.

When 2016's original Suicide Squad brought in more than $745 million at the worldwide box office, a sequel seemed like a sure thing. Eager to scoop him up as soon as his exit was signed, sealed, and delivered, it appears that Gunn will now be lending his talents to the other half of the Big Two.
