Now the app allows users to easily access the entire library of streaming content available to them across the various apps on their Apple TV, iPad and iPod.

Now, a report from CNBC has cast a spotlight on the rollout plan - which will apparently include HBO content and free original programming beamed directly to iOS devices.

And now consumers have another reason to choose that iPhone over an Android phone: free original content. Let's just hope that original content is of the quality users are used to seeing on competing video streaming services.

Apple has been looking to develop original video content for its new digital media strategy for quite some time now, and a new report from CNBC claims the tech giant plans to give away some of its TV shows and movies for free to anyone who owns an iOS or Apple TV device. You won't have to open that service's individual app separately.

Last month, The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple has around two dozen shows in "in development or production". The company is reportedly reworking its TV app for its products that will introduce new content, as well as a new digital TV service. The company now offers "Carpool Karaoke: The Series" for free to all users of the TV app. That means those channels will no longer have apps on the Apple TV home screen, which will make the interface a little less cluttered and hopefully make it a little easier to find the content you want to watch without sorting through all the apps.

According to CNBC's inside source, the service will launch in early 2019 to coincide with an update to the Apple TV app.

It's not clear if the deal is limited to legacy content, or would include current TV shows like Outlander, American Gods, Game Of Thrones and Westworld. We'll just have to be patient until Apple makes an announcement. Genius' lyrics database is also now available on Apple Music.
