New York State Launches Mandatory Mental Health Classes

The Australian Journal of Rural Health, in its October issue, reports that, on average, people with mental illness die 20 years earlier than the total population's average life expectancy.

A film has launched in Dundee shining a light on mental health issues faced by young people in the city.

Akanksha Pandey, a psychologist at Fortis Hospital, said, "With greater awareness, availability, and acceptance, a lot of young women in their 20s and 30s are seeking help against the stigma of the society".

Over 800,000 people commit suicide every year, US singer Lady Gaga and World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom wrote in an article for Mental Health Awareness Day. It can be imposed following an assessment by a mental health professional and a doctor.

Poor mental health during adolescence has an impact on educational achievement and increases the risk of alcohol and substance use and violent behavior, he said, adding that suicide is a leading cause of death in young people.

"Construction can be a very solitary occupation for many as they work in silos and don't get much time to communicate with others, and this is where the problems can occur".

A new survey of adults in the Midlands conducted for PHE also shows almost three quarters (71%) of people in the Midlands report experiencing one or more of low mood, anxiety, stress and trouble sleeping, frequently or occasionally.


"In my time as health minister I have met many people who have been bereaved bysuicide and their stories of pain and loss will stay with me for a long time".

In the 2016-2017 National Survey of Children's Health, results of a sample count approximated that in the state of NY, about 54.5 percent of children ages 3 to 17 did not receive mental and behavioral health treatment and counseling that they needed for disorders such as depression, anxiety, and other behavioral or conduct problems.

This year's world Mental Health Day was marked under the theme "Young People and Mental Health in a Changing World".

The Government has also reasserted its commitment to tackling mental health among young people. Mental illnesses on an average are equal in men and women.

The South Wales-based business has been working with mental health charity Mates in Mind to break the stigma surrounding mental health in the construction industry and train key members of staff to recognise mental health issues in colleagues and help counsel them through their problems.

This is why Health Minister, Dr. Duane Sands yesterday stressed the importance of raising the issue of mental health in conversations.

"Many Chinese parents have no knowledge of mental illnesses and they don't know how to help their children cope with daily life when the kids are mentally challenged", said Peng.
