You can now unlock your Google Assistant from your phone's lock screen

And Samsung started trolling the Pixel 3 and the ugly notch on the XL model as soon as Google unveiled it earlier this week. Those leaks also revealed that the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL would feature a single camera on the back and two on the front, and exposed Google's new artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) camera tricks before Google's announcement.

Google Assistant was first available on phones, so it's no surprise there's more coming even above and beyond the new redesign that's rolling out. The phones come with smart cameras and Android 9 Pie. Unless you've got a Pixel 3 in your pocket, this is just about as close as you're gonna get. Last year's iPhone X introduced the now-famous notch at the top of the screen, something Apple has carried over to its 2018 devices.

Speaking to Wired about its new smartphones, Mario Lopez, Google's VP of product management, said that Google [ Pixel ] doesn't a second lens.

Apart from the fact that Google's Pixel phones get instant access to new Android releases while owners of rival phones typically have to wait several months for updates, the cameras on Google's Pixel phone lineup have been among the phones' biggest draws.

Despite the global success of the Android operating system, Google has done less well with Pixel phones, which appeared nearly three years ago and have so far less than 1% share in the worldwide market, according to Strategy Analytics.

Two front-facing cameras are present on the pair - a standard lens is joined by a wide-angle sensor that can fit more people into selfies.

According to VentureBeat, Google Assistant will use its existing Voice Match feature - which can differentiate between up to six different members of a household on Google Home - to ascertain that the phone's owner is the one making the query.
