Epic Games Officially Reveals Fortnite’s In-Game Tournaments

Description: Participate in the first in-game tournament, spanning across several days of daily competition!

Tomorrow's Fortnite update, v6.10, is bringing in-game tournaments, Epic announced in a recent blog post.

"Battle Royale" is adding tournaments to its roster of in-game events. A specific release date was not shared, but its appearance in the News feed says it's "coming soon".

Each of the tournaments has a scheduled list of dates and times when the competitive mode is live to play. "Each of these scheduled sessions is a completely clean slate-all players will begin with the same score and compete over several hours of intense competition to earn as many points as possible". Players can earn points by either achieving high placements or eliminating multiple opponents. Each tournament will have a target score and players who reach the target will earn an in-game pin to mark the achievement. It will be followed by a duo tournament, and then a squad competition.

Epic also plans to "develop the tournaments feature to allow for events to occur across multiple rounds, requiring players to have earned a pin to qualify for each subsequent round".

As reported by Andy yesterday evening, in-game tournaments are open to everyone, and pit competitors on all platforms-and all types of control setups-against one another other "as equals". If you boot up the game you'll be greeted with a splash screen with the latest news and, alongside details on the new Disco Domination Limited-Time Mode and the Fortnite Android open-beta, there's an image and description of the Quadcrasher. According to Epic, they've been "observing the performance" of those using controllers and found they're just as competitive as keyboard and mouse players.
