Naby Keita: Liverpool midfielder set for scan after injury

Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita is on his way back to Liverpool already, just hours after he limped out of Guinea's game against Rwanda with an injury.

The player joined the Reds from RB Leipzig over the summer and has shown shades of the quality that Liverpool forked out so heavily for, but, so far, he has not established himself as a regular starter.

The midfielder suffered a suspected thigh injury in the first half, and had to be carried off the pitch by a team-mate with a stretcher not available.

It remains to be seen if Keita will make the trip to the John Smith's Stadium on Saturday evening but Liverpool's medical team are in for a busy few days as the midfielder is the fourth player to be returning from worldwide duty with an injury.

Virgil van Dijk has returned from the Holland camp carrying two broken ribs, while Sadio Mane reportedly suffered a broken thumb on worldwide duty with Senegal.

Liverpool sit third in the Premier League after an eight-game unbeaten start to the season, with Manchester City and Chelsea ahead of them on goal difference only. The Egyptian returned to Liverpool for treatment though his muscle strain is not though to be severe.

Van Dijk, meanwhile, has been playing with two broken ribs but played and scored in Netherlands' 3-0 win over Germany on Saturday evening.
