Discord Launches Game Store Beta

The Discord Store has gone from private beta to public, which means you can buy games straight out of the voice chat app - or get a subscription to a library of existing titles.

Included in the store is a selection of games that will be exclusive to Discord for a short time.

Following a soft release of the Discord store, the game marketplace is now available worldwide, Discord announced.

While the gaming store is still in a beta version, everyone will now be able to access its wares and purchase content they're interested in. The company's service is already a leading communication service for gamers, and the new game store makes it the flawless platform for gamers. We've contacted Discord for more information about how the Universal Library identifies games from different launchers. A few indie games will also be "First on Discord", meaning they'll be exclusive to the Discord storefront for the first 90 days or so after their launch.

The well-liked chat program Discord has really taken off in recent years, and it's hoping to leverage those good vibes as it expands into selling video games. Subscribing to this service will now cost $9.99 a month with over 60 games included in the catalog at this time, a value that Discord appraises at over $1,000. Instead, they're listed as "free with Nitro", Discord's premium option available for about $10 a month. In addition to the usual Nitro chat perks, this gets you access to a "growing library" of games, now including titles like Soma, Torchlight 2, Inside, and Shadow Tactics. Users will be able to find and launch any game they have previously played - no matter where it was purchased - from one place. "This way, you don't have to worry about which game boots from where!" The "Library" option is available from the "home" link in the Discord app, but it seems a bit hit-or-miss: The import process was simple and fast, but it failed to pick up some of my games, including Bard's Tale 4, The Tiny Bang Story, and You Must Build a Boat.
