Indian Huawei Mate 20 Pro launch set for next month

"In terms of physical design, the Mate 20 Pro is admirably lithe for a phone that combines a 6.4-inch screen, a substantial camera array, and a 4,200mAh battery".

Use the HUAWEI M-Pen to activate the Memo directly from a locked screen, its 4096 high level pressure sensitivity provides a feeling of natural penmanship, then your ideas flow.

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro isn't going to be cheap.

Huawei has unveiled the latest members of its Mate smartphone series: the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro.

The Galaxy Note 9 has a 6.4-inch display, and the new Huawei Mate 20 X has a massive 7.2-inch display. But with the Mate 20 Pro, it does look like Huawei learned some lessons from the already-beautiful P20 Pro.

Battery life is improved thanks to the new 4200 mAh battery.

Huawei is pushing the gaming elements of the Mate 20 X hard, even offering Nintendo Switch-like accessories.

The OLED screen features 1080p resolution. As for the Mate 20 X, it is priced at RM 3199 although this particular model will only be available in Malaysia starting from 11 November onwards. It also has AR emojis, just like Samsung and Apple's last couple of phones.

Huawei's new phone will be available in both midnight blue and phantom silver. Well, we thought we'd ask you - would you own a smartphone with a 7.2-inch screen?

Calling the Mate 20 X big is an understatement.

In addition to Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20 RS is another product of collaboration between Huawei and Porsche Design, aiming at the high-end market with its leather-clad design and doubled price. That's a big claim we're eager to test out, even if it seems unlikely.

As mentioned in the intro, all these devices are based around the capabilities of the Huawei Kirin 980 SoC. It certainly makes the phone come alive as a gaming device when you add the joypad on to the left-hand of the Mate 20 X. I got to play a little bit of Fortnite and the graphics were smooth and the responsiveness of the controls (connected by Bluetooth) were impressive.

We were told at the time that monochrome is better for low light detail and this boosts all the pictures you take. On the front, the Mate 20 Pro comes with a 24MP camera.

This seemed like the ideal environment in which to hold up an expensive brand new smartphone, risk losing it into the murky waters, all in the name of seeing how the camera performed.

On to photography, the Mate 20 Pro packs three cameras on the rear like the Mate 20 Pro but with different sensors.

The Mate 20 X was one variant of several other Mate 20 devices announced at the event alongside a new smartwatch and a wireless charging pad. Granted, a proprietary format is likely to cost more than a standard microSD card, as you'll find used in many other phones... but it is smaller than microSD.

You might have noticed that there are some major design differences between the Mate 20 and the Mate 20 Pro.

While the device is a powerhouse, the talking point is the cooling system under the hood.

The battery can also 23 hours of video playback, according to Huawei. For comparison, the iPhone XS has a 2658mAh battery.

In our first test, the performance of the Porsche Design Mate 20 RS was extremely fast and as flawless as expected from a luxury smartphone.
