Four 49ers players to watch Sunday vs. Rams

Before their game with the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, the team unveiled statues commemorating Dwight Clark's catch of a Joe Montana pass on January 10, 1982, in the NFL Championship Game. In July, he signed a $60 million contract extension through the 2023 season that now looks like a bargain-basement deal for the undefeated Rams. The 49ers give up 29.8 points per game, ranking them 29th in the league, while the Rams rank 3rd in points averaging 32.7 a game. The Rams 13-3 halftime lead felt subdued.

Gurley's national profile grew last season, when he rebounded from a disappointing 2016 performance, helped lead the Rams to the playoffs and was named the NFL's offensive player of the year. Quarterback Jared Goff has a myriad of weapons - even with the loss of receiver Cooper Kupp.

That was in stark contrast to when he carried 20 times for 108 yards in the season opener against the Oakland Raiders.

With this in mind, this will most likely become one of those games in which the Rams heavily rely on their star running back once again, and Gurley will certainly be ready for whatever workload is necessary.

"There's really not anything that Todd can't do in terms of what you ask him", coach Sean McVay said. San Francisco has been solid against the run so far this season, giving up just 98.2 yards per contest (13th in the NFL). I think we've only played one complete game - even in that complete game, we had certain moments here and there that we could've corrected. I put a lot of pressure on him this week.

"I know I've talked about it a bunch of times with all the stuff he's good at", Goff said.

It's a west coast matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers in Week 7, where the Rams remain the only unbeaten team in the NFL. "If we didn't pick them up, then they would keep doing it, so the more good stuff we keep putting on film, then hopefully [we] won't have to deal with that situation". Los Angeles has improved to 6-0 by going 2-0 during this stretch of three straight road games, beating Seattle and Denver.

But their 310 yards per game ranks sixth in the NFL. Green Bay racked up a ridiculous 521 yards of total offense and scored 10 of their 33 points in the fourth quarter. Backup quarterback C.J. Beathard fared well in the absence of Jimmy Garoppolo (out for the year with a torn ACL), but the defense could not contain Packers QB Aaron Rodgers in the late stages.
