Govt Imposes 24-hour Curfew In Kaduna

"A 24 hour curfew has been imposed on Kaduna town and environs".

The February violence was over an alleged abduction and conversion of some Christian girls by Muslims in the community. A resident told our correspondent on the phone that a number of people were killed while houses were set ablaze.

A similar crisis in February left more than 10 people dead in Kasuwan Magani, while 65 suspects involved in the crisis were arraigned in court but the case is still ongoing.

Findings gathered that instead of dealing with the thieves as who they are, Muslims and Christians youths started fighting with broken bottles. They started using risky weapons to attack each other and setting houses ablaze.

The Police statement also condemned the attack and killing of innocent people, while calling for calm as the Police Special investigation Team has made significant progress in the investigation into the incident.

Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-rufai has declared a 24-hour curfew in Kaduna and its environs as the violence originating from Kasuwan Magani has spread all over the state. "Security personnel have been deployed and the situation is under control".

Past year troops and additional police officers were deployed to Southern Kaduna in response to an outbreak of violence.

Moshood said the police will carry out twenty four hours surveillance and patrol, stop and search and continuous raids of identified criminal hideouts and black spots.
