Conor McGregor meets Irish boxing champ Katie Taylor in Boston

Katie Taylor retained her IBF and WBA lightweight titles in the U.S. on Saturday night in a dominant unanimous decision victory over a subdued challenger in Puerto Rican Cindy Serrano.

The Bray boxer emerged victorious in Boston's TD Garden last night during the fight that saw Taylor win each of her 10 rounds against Puerto Rican Serrano.

One woman who could give Taylor a challenge, however, is Cindy Serrano's sister Amanda who has held world titles in six different weight classes.

"It's an honour to see you live". But her utter reluctance to engage in any meaningful competitive manner with the unbeaten Taylor left the champion and the expectant attendance of 6,840 deeply frustrated.

"Katie, you're a fuckin' animal, I'll tell you that", McGregor told the 32-year-old. I have your back all the way, I'll back you, whatever you need.

"I did get caught by a jab when I done it and I was mortified".

"I heard that and I heard him throughout the whole fight".

The former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion released a video of his post-fight meeting with Taylor on Instagram in which he described her as an "Irish hero".

"I think I'm fighting December 15th?" At one point in the seventh round Taylor even dropped her hands and goaded her opponent in as a demonstration of how easy she was finding it.

McGregor delivered to Taylor a passionate pre-fight motivational speech, swiftly before she took to the ring where he emphasised just how much admiration he has for her. It's also possible she fights the following week inside London's O2 Arena.

"I would still love her to fight a champion and I know Katie is about legacy and belts, and her original aim was to be champion to the division".
