Oprah, Pence visiting Georgia in deadlocked governor's race

She said that she called Abrams up and offered to make campaign appearances for her. Winfrey said to Abrams, "You keep standing strong for the values that matter to me, and the values that matter to Georgians all over this state". "I am here because I want you to remind others of the power".

"I don't want to go in those waters!"

For her part, Winfrey sought to cut through the party-line framing. "I'm here today to support a change-maker".

"I am here today because Stacey Abrams cares about the things that matter", she said to a mostly female audience north of downtown Atlanta.

Vice President Mike Pence campaigned for Kemp on Thursday, and made reference to Abrams' celebrity support.

She added that she is in Georgia because of all the men and women throughout history who were "suppressed, repressed and oppressed for the right and the equality at the polls".

Oprah Winfrey's impassioned speech on Thursday at a campaign event for Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams (D) earned praise from an array of media figures, including those on President Donald Trump's favorite TV channel: Fox News. "Rather it lives and thrives in making sure that everybody is lifted by the community", Winfrey said.

At a campaign rally for her Republican opponent Brian Kemp, Pence said, "I've got a message for all of Stacey Abrams' liberal Hollywood friends: This ain't Hollywood. And Brian Kemp is going to do just that". But after her speech, in a sit-down interview with Abrams - reminiscent of the 25-year television run of her daytime television show - she noted they were "just two women from MS".

"This is Georgia. And Georgia wants a governor that's going to put Georgia values and Georgia first". Kemp is trying to prevent Democrats from establishing Georgia as a legitimate presidential battleground state.
