Kyrie Irving calls Jamal Murray’s attempt at 50 points ‘BS’

Nuggets guard Jamal Murray put on a scoring clinic against the Celtics on Monday night, dropping a career-high 48 points in Denver's 115-107 win. Irving said after dressing quick following Boston's loss. There's a remarkably consistent pattern across any statistically meaningful time period: Ye olde Celtics lose two games in Denver for every victory.

But it should make them look worse than Murray. He did it in a great fashion. Boston didn't go down without a fight and any time they got a bucket Murray had a response.

"What kind of competitor wouldn't it bother?" he snapped.

"Everybody knew I was trying to go for 50 at that point". He had two attempts to reach 50 points in the final seconds, but missed a reverse layup and then that 3 at the buzzer - one that bothered the Celtics with the game already decided. I really don't care at that point. On his way to a stellar scoring night, Murray converted 19-of-30 field goal attempts and 5-of-11 threes, while also contributing five rebounds and four assists in 38 minutes of action.

He scored 14 of the Nuggets last 16 points down the stretch to advance the Nuggets to a 9-1 record, tying their best start in franchise history.

There's more to be taken from the loss at IN on Saturday and upcoming games against Phoenix and Utah.

Murray said he wasn't trying to run up the score and he didn't mean any disrespect to the Celtics.

"I know him personally, so I'm not gonna sit up here and badger him". "I think it's good he's taken this full year off to rehab that body and give himself a chance to be ready for next season". I feel like it was a little bit disrespectful but, at the same time, let him do him.

Clearly, Irving is a firm believer in the unwritten rules of basketball.

"It's a lot of fun to go against him, especially when you're both making shots and you get to come up with the W", said Murray.

Jamal Murray celebrates a three-point basket against the Boston Celtics in the fourth quarter at the Pepsi Center on November 5, 2018 in Denver, Colo. I think there was a point where we were both scoring so much back and forth, we just both stood at the 3-point line, like, both exhausted.
