Breaking Bad movie is officially in the works

We don't know if the movie will be another prequel to the epic events of Walter White's descent into a life of crime, or if it will cover new ground in the future.

Both Variety and The Hollywood Reporter are reporting that Vince Gilligan, creator of Breaking Bad and prequel series Better Call Saul, is working on a movie that will be in Walter White's universe.

The Emmy-winning AMC drama Breaking Bad is getting another franchise expansion, with a film that has been quietly been put together for a mid-November through early February shoot in New Mexico. Luckily, it'll be helmed by series creator, Vince Gilligan, so we can rest easy knowing the project is in good hands.

I hear deals are still being made by Sony for the project, which could be a done as a feature if the producers go down that route or could become a TV film/miniseries if it is sold to a TV network or a streaming platform.

The local paper has claimed to have obtained an early plot synopsis too, saying that the movie will 'track the escape of a kidnapped man and his quest for freedom'.

There's always been talk - or at least hope - that Vince Gilligan would bring the show back for some sort of final run dealing with the aftermath of the original finale, but as the years go by, it's looked less and less likely.

That description is pretty vague, but if I, an embarrassingly huge Breaking Bad fan, were to take a wishful guess, it could be about Jesse Pinkman after the events which take place after the series finale.

The Journal also reports the title as "Greenbriar", though whether that's the final title is in the air as well.

Further details are sure to emerge in the coming weeks, though - it's safe to say we're going to get pretty excited for this one...
