The second option is a flexible update that allows the user to continue using the app while the update continues in progress.

For now, the new In-app Updates API will only be available to Android developers who are early access partners. While developers can pick the full-screen experience option to push critical updates, there is also a flexible update option that lets users keep using the app while the update is downloaded and installed. Google has introduced new tools and features at Android Developer Summit. The API will give developers a couple options when it comes to updates. Google has added widely requested features in the latest In-app Updates API. Originally created to help Android users in certain countries that do not have a lot of storage on their mobile devices, the app was quickly adopted worldwide.

"We've heard that you'd like more controls to ensure that users are running the latest and greatest version of your app", said Stephanie Cuthbertson, Director of Product Management, Android, in a blog post.

Along with the new updates API, Google official rolled out support for foldable devices on the eve of celebrating ten-years of Android.

This month over 118,000 new projects using Kotlin started in Android Studio, marking a 10-fold increase on past year, according to Google.

Google's new contract for Android vendors that want its core apps aims to bring the industry in line with Samsung's security patching model.

Overall, it's a good package of announcements that Google went live at Android Developers summit.
