Liverpool would have been four points clear at the top - for at least a few hours - had they won, but their inability to do so means Napoli or Paris Saint-Germain can overtake them.

"I only have ten fingers", he responded.

"We knew [about the atmosphere]", he said. But I have no message at the moment. "We all have to deal with it now".

The fan said: "It would even be understandable if it was Marko Grujić because he used to play for red star but it seems like Markovic is doing it as a dig at the club. we should just cut our losses and terminate his contract".

"Maybe it's not been as good to look at but we've been effective at it but, yeah, maybe we are missing a bit of a spark in terms of not winning four or five-nil in most games. Arguably we're still to play the best team away and we need to put in a much better performance than we have done so far".

"Sunday, Fulham is waiting".

Forward Milan Pavkov headed his side into the lead after 21 minutes and fired a powerful effort into the bottom corner to make it 2-0 shortly afterwards.

Changes were needed and Klopp acted swiftly, bringing on Roberto Firmino and Joe Gomez at half-time for Sturridge and Trent Alexander-Arnold. "One of them, they scored and the block worked [on] Virgil in that area".

The 24-year-old, whose career has stalled badly following his £20 million move to Anfield from Benfica in 2014, was caught liking a tweet celebrating Red Star's victory over Liverpool.

The Serbian side scored twice in the first half to give Klopp plenty to talk about at the break but the Liverpool manager was unable to motivate his players to come back and cause any late drama at the Stadion Rajko Mitic. [There were] a lot of balls which don't count as a shot on target because we missed the target. In Liverpool we controlled the game, tonight we didn't. We didn't and so they stayed completely comfortable and were fighting really hard. However, defeat means they can not really afford to lose either of their two final round-robin matches against PSG and Napoli, who are both impressive sides.

A deflected Andy Robertson cross struck the Red Star crossbar in the second period while Mohamed Salah struck the post with a shot from the edge of the box.
