Vijay's Sarkar joins Rs 100 crore club in just two days

However, the critics have come down hard on the film, but, it hasn't affected the collection of the film. For the first time ever, the opening song of the film was played twice in selected theatres during the premiere.

Sarkar is taking the global box office by storm. The exact figures are yet to arrive, but it can be gauged from the fact that film collected over Rs 30 crore in Tamil Nadu, about Rs 6 crore in Karnataka and over Rs 5 crore in Kerala. It has also made it to the top three Tamil movies in America.

After actor Vijay's "Mersal" landed in a controversy over dialogues on GST last year, it's the turn of the actor's Diwali release, "Sarkar", to end up in the crosshairs of the powers that be this year, with a few ministers threatening government's intervention to get some "offensive scenes" from the movie removed. The movie reportedly made a record opening of over Rs 47 crore on the first day, surpassing Ranbir Kapoor starrer Sanju's record. The film had 2018's biggest opening.

Vijay in a still from Sarkar. The film released in 800 theatres in the state and close to 3000 worldwide.

Earlier today, we told you how Sarkar beat the record of Baahubali 2 in Kerala.

The film drew massive crowds across the globe. With this number of screens, we expect Sarkar to set new benchmarks at the ticket windows. The film revolves around one man's mission to fight for his voting rights after someone casts his vote illegally and he challenges the system in the process. The day two collection is estimated to be Rs 2.32 crore.

Sarkar had previously run into trouble with writer Varun Rajendran who alleged that the story of the film was copied from his work Sengol.

The film directed by AR Murugadoss has also created records in the overseas markets.

Yesterday, another state minister, Kadambur C Raju also threatened action if the objectionable scenes were not removed.
