Demanding Unai Emery pushes Arsenal stars to the limits, says Alex Iwobi

Demanding Unai Emery pushes Arsenal stars to the limits, says Alex Iwobi

"The news is that we are going to wait - but we think it's a serious injury".

The Arsenal forward's career has been plagued by injuries, and this could be the worst of the lot.

Welbeck suffered the injury in the first half of the group stage fixture, with the score locked at 0-0. We wish him all the best in his recovery. He's helped us with his behaviour, with his quality and his capacity.

Sporting arrived in N5 in a state of disarray despite sitting second having garnered six points from their three matches.

"But when he had the injury we needed to play with a right-back which was the reason we played with Ainsley [Maitland-Niles]".

The 6-foot winger has been a revelation since leaving Angers for Lille in 2017, scoring 14 goals in all competitions last season before playing a starring role this term. "We don't want it, but this is our profession".

The incident seemed to affect both sets of players for the rest of the game, with little in the way of goalscoring opportunities.

A heavily changed Arsenal side were unable to break down a dogged Sporting team, who were reduced to 10 men in the 88th minute when defender Jeremy Mathieu fouled striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as he raced towards the area.

"Danny is a very good person, his commitment with us is very big".

But Arsenal could not take advantage as Aubameyang blasted the resulting free-kick well over the crossbar.

"We do not even know what I'll be doing tomorrow". But when the match finishes, the first thing they did was ask for him.

Yet a 15th game unbeaten for Unai Emery's side at least assured them of European football after the turn of the year with two group matches left to seal top spot.
