CC Sabathia agrees to deal to stay with Yankees

For the second offseason in a row, the Yankees have made a decision to bring CC Sabathia back on a one-year deal.

The 38-year-old Sabathia, who will return for his 11th season with the Yankees, has turned into a reliable five-inning pitcher, ideal for the back end of a rotation NY is hoping to fill via free agency or trade. "The 38-year-old lefty has played the past 10 seasons of his 18-season career with the Yankees." .

Sabathia, who underwent right knee surgery in October, is one of just three returning members of the Yankees' 2018 rotation, joining Luis Severino and Masahiro Tanaka.

He is 129-80 for the Yankees, and his new deal boosts his pay from NY to $229 million over 11 seasons.

Sabathia took a cut to $10 million this year, agreeing December 16 to a deal that was finalized 10 days later.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has often implied that the team will continue its bargaining in the upcoming season, and his recent comments all but solidify that idea.

In 10 years with the Yankees, Sabathia is 129-80 with a 3.74 ERA and 1.264 WHIP in 1810.2 innings pitched.

"Last year we had to be really careful about every step we took in terms of financial commitments so it took longer because we were having to have that luxury-tax issue in the back of our minds".

"These are known commodities", Cashman said. Voit, acquired from St. Louis on July 28, hit.333 with 14 homers and 33 RBIs in 39 games.

"He's been a great Yankee and he has some time on the clock still". Gray, a right-hander who turns 29 this week, was unhappy with the harsh treatment he was given by demanding Yankees fans.

"I'd love to have him come back, " Cashman said at baseball's GM meetings on Monday. So I will reallocate his abilities to some other club for a yet-to-be determined price tag, and he will be good again. I'm interested in adding more than one pitcher.
