Uncle of Santiago Solari: Managing Real Madrid an incredibly hard task

Spanish rules state that an interim coach can not be in charge for more than two weeks so Madrid had to appoint Solari - or an alternative - to avoid punishment.

Santiago Solari has been officially named Real Madrid's permanent manager.

Santiago Solari on Tuesday (Nov 13) was confirmed as Real Madrid coach until 2021 following his successful spell in charge as caretaker boss of the European champions.

Former Spain national manager Lopetegui lasted just 14 games as Madrid coach, after being appointed as Zinedine Zidane's successor last summer.

According to a statement on the club's official website, the 42-year-old Solari has now been handed a two and half years contract as first team manager, after arriving on interim basis from the junior team- Castilla.

Solari was place in charge on interim basis last month followin the sacking of Julen Lopetegui after the humiliating defeat to FC Barcelona.

He has presided over victories against Melilla in the Copa del Rey, Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League plus Real Valladolid and Celta Vigo in La Liga.

Solari has already recorded victories as Real Madrid manager.

Los Blancos now sit sixth in a very tight La Liga table, just four points behind leaders Barcelona, who were surprisingly beaten 4-3 by Real Betis at the Camp Nou on Sunday afternoon. "It's a great opportunity - a huge chance and let's hope he has luck on his side", Jorge Solari said.

"Everything goes very quickly, the important thing is the day to day".

In his final game as interim coach over the weekend before the global break, Solari saw Real win 4-2 against Celta Vigo.
